Grandma Bostick

Ian has always been very close with his maternal grandparents- they always lived near by and Ian was able to spend a lot of time with them and grew up around them.  Likewise, our children have been able to visit with their great grandparents (Ian's grandparents) regularly.  Six months ago Grandpa Bostick passed away.  Yesterday, after a visit from her children, myself, Ian and our children, Grandma Bostick passed away around 10:30pm at the age of 88.  We will carry fond memories of Grandma with us always and will make sure to pass along the stories of Grandma to our children.  In her honor, I want to share some pictures and memories we have of our dear Grandma Bostick:

Both Grandma and Grandpa Bostick used to love telling stories of their lives and on one particular day, while telling a story about some horses that they had owned, Grandma said "....that was before I knew that horses came in boys and girls" and Ian and I thought that it was just the funniest thing that there was any time in Grandma's adult life that she didn't realize that there were both boy and girl horses!!  Stories like this always bring a smile to our faces because we found this side of Grandma Bostick to be very endearing.

Another funny "Grandma Bostick" story that brings smiles to our faces was when we were visiting with Grandma and Grandpa one day and during the visit, Grandma piped up and asked "Did you hear about the Salami in Hawaii?"  What she meant to ask us was if we had heard about the Tsunami that had happened in Hawaii.  Both Ian and I giggled and answered her that yes, we had heard about the "Salami."  I will always remember Grandma Bostick with a smile on my face- she was truly one of a kind.

One of Julia Bostick's greatest pleasures in life was spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  I was still pregnant with Channing when Grandpa Bostick passed away and I truly feel that after that point, part of Grandma's zest for life was her desire to meet baby Channing.  I have never seen Grandma smile as big as she did the day we were released from the hospital with Channing; we left the hospital and went directly to Grandma to introduce her to her newest great grand baby.  Grandma was so excited and content holding our 3 day old Channing.  Here's a picture of this special time:

This past Christmas was the first Christmas that Grandma Bostick was not able to come to Uncle Kent's house to celebrate, so we did what any family would do and we brought Christmas to Grandma!  Here's a picture of Grandma celebrating Christmas Day with Ian, Jude, and Channing:

Grandma and Grandpa Bostick were married for 66 years and truly loved each other with all that they had.  They were married in the same church that Ian and I were married in and we hope to continue to have the same love and strong relationship that Grandma and Grandpa Bostick displayed for so many years.  Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Bostick for modeling for us the true meaning of the love that a marriage represents.  This last picture may seem a bit strange, but it's one of the last pictures that we have of Grandma and Grandpa Bostick together and when we were looking through pictures today it caught our eyes and seemed to represent something special to us.  This picture was taken during a visit we had with Grandma and Grandpa Bostick and we were following them down a hall while they led the way on their scooters.  Grandpa led the way and Grandma followed shortly after towards the light:

For us the above picture is symbolic and brings comfort and peace that Grandma and Grandpa are together again in Heaven.  We love you Grandma Bostick.  Rest in peace.

Potty, Thumbs, & Snow!

Not much has been going on around the Walker household lately, but here's a bit of what we've been up to...  The other weekend we bought a potty for Jude!  We're not really potty training just yet, but I wanted to go ahead and get it to start introducing it to him.  I plan to really start potty training this summer, after Jude has turned two years old.  Jude hasn't a clue what to do on the potty; he seems to think it's a neat little chair for him to sit on.  I usually sit him on the potty each night while we're getting ready for his bath and now he has incorporated this into his routine and likes to say "Pee Pee" and then sit on the potty.  After about a minute of sitting on the potty, he'll get up and walk over to the toilet and flush it.  Jude has yet to actually use the potty for it's intended purpose.  Here's some pictures of Jude and his red potty:

Channing is three months old now and has really been discovering her hands recently- throughout this process she has discovered her thumb and seems to like sucking her thumb!  Here's a picture of little Channing Charlton and her thumb:

Within the past week, we have had quite the assortment of weather!  One day we had snow and another it was sunny and warm with the high around 73 degrees.  When it was snowing, we made sure to take Jude outside to let him experience this somewhat rare treat!  Jude wasn't so sure about the snow and he was interested in what it was.  Here's a picture of Jude reaching for a snowflake:

It's always fun to watch your children having new experiences and learning new things on a daily basis.  I look forward to watching both Jude and Channing growing and learning new things about the world around them.

Be Mine

Happy Valentines Day 2012!  Jude gave out Valentines gifts to his class this year.  Each gift consisted of a card that said:  I'm "Wheelie" Glad We're Friends!  Happy Valentines Day"  and had a matchbox car with two heart shaped suckers with it.  Jude's teachers said that Jude handed out his valentines in the morning during circle time and that Jude was really excited to give them out but wasn't sure if they were for his friends or for himself!  Ha ha.  I'm sure Jude was mostly excited about all of the little cars.  Here's a picture of Jude's Valentines:

Jude came home from school with two valentines from his classmates and was excited to open them.  In other Valentines news, today is Grandma Bonnie's birthday!  Over the weekend we celebrated Grandma Bonnie (Ian's mom) as a family and Jude enjoyed a piece of chocolate valentines candy...

Little Artist

Jude did his first "art project" at school last week!  I know it's not much, but I love it and want to always remember it (hence the reason for this blog post).  Jude glued colored tissue paper to his piece of black  construction paper and his teacher said that he kept trying to keep it from sticking to his hands.  Here's his work:
